Step into the Story
In the late 1800s, Asian travelers came by steamship and rail to Seattle in search of opportunity and a better life. They crowded into hotels and boarding houses. They lived frugally and worked in laundries, shops, restaurants, hotels, and gambling places. Many found employment as laborers in timber, mining, railroad, and fishing industries. Some even became entrepreneurs, starting import-export businesses or establishing restaurants and cafes.
Through our guided tours and ongoing exhibitions about the Asian Pacific American community, you can understand Seattle in a new way. See how immigrants have shaped the Pacific Northwest from the early pioneer days to influencing current day issues and trends.
We encourage you to explore both inside and outside our Museum walls. The Chinatown-International District neighborhood is an important part of Seattle's history and cultural vibrancy.
All admission options include an all-day pass to our gallery exhibitions. This way, you can come, leave to grab a bite at a nearby restaurant, and then come back if you wish. We want you to give you time to explore, linger and dig a little deeper into our story.
