HOW YOU KEEP A STORY GOING

“The museum, like a multi-facet diamond, dazzles us with stories of our diverse Asian American background.” – Herb Tsuchiya

A Museum Like No Other- The Museum has embarked upon an extraordinary journey to transform a building and a community by raising $23.2 million to rehabilitate the historic East Kong Yick Building as its new permanent home. From its new home, the Museum will expand its role as an economic and community resource for a distinctly diverse neighborhood, as one of Seattle's historic and creative treasures, and as a cultural institution of national significance.

The new Wing Luke Asian Museum will:

- Offer new space and expanded programs for community meetings and events, public space for the neighborhood, theatre space for performances and presentations, exhibit spaces for community art and emerging Asian Pacific American artists, family-centered learning environments and leadership development for neighborhood youth.
- Expand the Museum school program, the largest pan-Asian Pacific American resource of its kind in the nation for educators and students.
- Enhance the breadth and depth of Museum collections and provide visitors, families and researchers access to the artifacts, written records, photographs and exhibits that chronicle and preserve Asian Pacific American experiences and voices.
- Provide accessible community space for public dialogue and action that builds intergenerational and multiethnic understanding and furthers social justice.
- Become an economic hub in the heart of the Chinatown-International District by attracting as many as 60,000 annual visitors, creating jobs and providing retail space for small businesses.

The Museum received a $900,000 The Kresge Foundation Challenge Grant towards the new Museum project.  This grant has been made on a challenge basis to assist us in raising the balance of our campaign goal.  Every $3 donated now will bring in $1 toward our Kresge Foundation award.

The capital campaign will conclude in December 2007 and the new Wing Luke Asian Museum will welcome the community home in early 2008. The endowment phase of the campaign, to launch in 2007, will build a $1.7 million seed fund that will secure this living treasure for generations to come.
