Description Basketry vase used for nageire style Ikebana flower arranging
Tall basket woven of bamboo, slightly rounded walls tapering near the top and flaring at the rim. Bamboo is stained dark brown, lower half is open hexagonal weave, wrapped with bamboo strands. Upper half is twill weave, covered with open hexagonal woven layer. Band of twined bamboo around the center. The rim is twisted bundle of bamboo which is attached with wrapped bamboo weaver. Curved piece of branch is attached to both sides of the basket to form a handle. A ring of bamboo on the base forms a shallow pedestal. The basket bottom is broken and the hole is reinforced with fishing line. Made in Japan. May originally have had a waterproof insert.
