  • Anyone with an interest in Asian American Pacific Islander heritage — all are welcome!

  • All experience levels are encouraged to come!

  • Organizations currently sharing about Asian American Pacific Islander heritage at their site — or with the potential to do so!


FINDING A PATH FORWARD

In partnership with the National Park Service (NPS), Wing Luke Museum will host an upcoming convening to dive into the recent NPS Asian American Pacific Islander National Historic Landmarks Theme Study

The Theme Study is meant to lay out the national historic context and then set the stage for identifying and recognizing sites of significance. At our local convening, we’ll especially dive into significant themes and places rooted in the Pacific Northwest.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHTS

  • Keynote with Konrad Ng, national advisor to the Study

  • Workshops and breakout sessions

  • Tours in the Chinatown-International District

  • There will also be a Friday daytime partner convening to explore future potential expanded collaboration.

Explore Local Heritage Sites

Participants are responsible for own travel to and from the sites

  • Bainbridge Island Japanese American Exclusion Memorial – Hosted tour of the Memorial for convening participants. Time tbd.

  • Mukai Farm & Garden – Special opening of the Mukai House from 1-4pm with docents available for convening participants.

  • Seattle Art Museum – Our partner is able to provide a limited number of admission tickets for participants to explore the Seattle Art Museum on your own.

  • Washington Trust for Historic Preservation Stimson Green Mansion – Landmark headquarters for the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, the Stimson Green Mansion is an example of early 20th century English Tudor Revival style architecture, located in Seattle’s First Hill neighborhood. Though it has no direct ties to AAPI heritage, the landmark provides an opportunity to reflect on and explore the landmark process overall.

NOTE REGARDING COVID-19

These sessions will be on-site in Seattle, WA.

Beginning Thursday, December 15th 2022, masks are optional but highly encouraged for on-site visitors. We will provide masks and cleaning supplies for visitors to use upon request.

An exception to this rule will be Wednesdays, which will remain a courtesy mask-mandatory day to accommodate visitors who need or prefer increased COVID-19 precautions. Additionally, certain museum experiences such as tours and high-capacity on-site events will still require guests to be fully masked.
