FILIPINO AMERICAN NATIONAL HISTORICAL SOCIETY 40TH ANNIVERSARY: CELEBRATING THE PAST, PRESENT, & FUTURE

In recognition of Filipino American History Month, join us for a celebration of FANHS (Filipino American National Historical Society) with historian and Founder/Executive Director Dorothy Cordova. The event will also include a pictorial history of FANHS created by Damian Cordova, the historic display “The Filipino Community 1920-1970” and a panel from the Filipino American community, who exemplify the mission of FANHS - to gather, to research, to share, to disseminate Filipino American history. Panel speakers include Roger Rigor, Joann Oligario, and Romson Regarde Bustillo, with moderator Cynthia Mejia-Giudici.

Dorothy Laigo Cordova, along with her partner, the late Fred Cordova, founded the Filipino American National Historical Society (FANHS) in 1982. She is a historian, author and activist involved with the Filipino American community since the 1950s and continues to serve as the Executive Director of FANHS.

Panlists from left to right:

Roger Rigor came to the US after 1965. He was reluctant at first to stay in the US after his research in Hawaii. He is a talented musician and retired Seattle Public School teacher.

Joann Oligario is a retired Kaiser Permanente lab tech, US Navy veteran, Indipino. She will share about her Filipino father’s farm on Bainbridge where he met his Indian wife.

Romson Bustillo, Philippine-born artist, has shown his work in the US and Europe. He splits his time between Barcelona and Seattle. 

Cynthia Mejia-Giudici (moderator) is the daughter of immigrants from Pangasinan, Philippines. She is an educator, oral historian and writer.
