During Wing Luke Museum’s in-person Summer Camps museum galleries and classrooms transform for campers to connect with history and have fun while playing in the Chinatown-International District (C-ID).

What will your camper find in the galleries and rooms within Wing Luke Museum? Delicious recipes? An encounter with a dragon? Inspiration for creativity and art projects?

Campers learn about the C-ID as they stretch themselves creatively with art projects and play. Histories, traditions, and cultures collide in our Summer Camps as we explore the neighborhood and Wing Luke Museum in unexpected and engaging ways.

Join us for an action-packed week at Camp Bruce Lee. Created in partnership with the Bruce Lee Foundation, campers will learn from the teachings and life of Bruce Lee through daily martial arts lessons, visits to the Bruce Lee Exhibit and Chinatown-International District, as well as through arts and crafts, games, and more!

Campers will be immersed within Bruce Lee’s philosophies and learn how we all can take away insightful life lessons from this great role model. The camp will explore his messages on gaining confidence and tapping into the unlimited potential found within all of us. At the end of the week, family and friends are invited to join us in a presentation where we’ll share all that we learned throughout the week and will culminate in an exciting board-breaking ceremony.

Camp Bruce Lee changes lives – providing participants with a renewed sense of confidence, physical and mental stimulation and exercise, self-awareness, fun, and lifelong friendships! No previous martial arts experience is necessary—only the willingness and openness to learn!

ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR

MJ Steele is a 3rd degree black belt under Kim Hong Yee, and has taken lessons from 3 of Bruce Lee's students: Taky/ Andy Kimura, Richard Bustillo, and Dan Inosanto.

He is currently the Kids and UW class instructor for the Seattle Kung Fu club and recently won Grand Champion in the 18 and up Advanced Forms Division at the 41st Can-Am Martial Arts tournament.

“I’ve been enamored with the Martial Arts for as long as I can remember. I grew up in the age of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Power Rangers, and Mortal Kombat. One of my favorite childhood memories is catching the Dragon the Bruce Lee story and Mortal Kombat double feature at my local drive-in theater. I would copy the moves I saw on screen, spending hours in the yard or outdoor parks dressing like a ninja and using trees as sparring partners.”

I am so proud to be involved with the Wing Luke Museum and the Bruce Lee Foundation in helping to preserve these stories, experiences, and philosophies. I think back to how Bruce Lee’s image, his movies, and his writings were accessible to me from an early age and how much they influenced and ultimately improved my life. I want to show my gratitude to all the people who helped make my experience possible and I am so grateful that I can carry, and eventually pass on, the torch to the next generation to do the same. Thank you!”

The Chinatown International District is a residential neighborhood that also features many culinary gems. Want to know how to make bread like they do at Hood Famous Bakeshop? Or dumplings like at Szechuan Noodle Bowl? In this week of Summer Camp at the Wing Luke Museum, we will be meeting with chefs from neighborhood restaurants who will teach us how to make some of the dishes that can be found in their menus. Learn how to cook these tasty eats, do some food-related visual art, and at the end of the week, take home a cookbook with all the recipes we tried.

ALLERGIES & DIETARY RESTRICTIONS: Please note that campers with severe allergies or dietary restrictions may want to use their discretion when deciding to join us for this week of camp.

Foods that we will try will contain gluten. While we will try to limit cross-contact with allergens such as tree nuts, in some spaces it may be difficult to ensure that no cross-contact has occurred.

Please inquire with Tess Abellera at tabellera@wingluke.org or by phone (206-623-5124 ext. 213) to see if this camp is right for your family.

In years past, Art week at Summer Camp has focused on creating visual art. In 2026, we’re expanding the definition of art to include performing arts too! Each day of this week, we will focus the spotlight on a different performing art form: music, cultural dances, drill team cadences, and drama. In addition to creating visual art, we will play with different types of movement and performance and meet with teaching artists who are experts in playing taiko, doing cultural dances, marching in drill teams, and acting on the stage. On the last day of camp, we will have a talent show to show off our skills.

COVID-19 INFORMATION FOR SUMMERCAMP

Our in-person camps add extra precautions and safety measures to keep both our staff and campers safe. Camper families can learn more about how covid-safety has been planned into our program by viewing our Covid-19 procedures:

  • • Camp staff, interns and volunteer counselors will be trained on proper sanitization of spaces, social distancing protocols, and covid-19 symptoms and following protocols.

    • Masks are encouraged but not required

    • Campers will have access to handwashing stations and hand sanitizer throughout the day and planned handwashing time will occur before and after recess and lunch.

    • Museum will have hand sanitizer available for campers but campers can bring their own hand sanitizer to camp.

    • Two different cohort groups inside the building, switching places after lunch with two discrete activities in each space.

    • Museum’s Hepa Filtration/ventilation- Our HVAC system has been adjusted to increase the flow of outside air while still maintaining museum standards for environmental controls. We have installed Marv 11 filters that filter down to 1 micron particulars (much smaller than the water vapor that carries coronavirus particles).

    • Recess and Lunch will take place outside, socially distanced (6ft recommended, 3ft enforced), masks worn at all time except when eating.

    • If because of inclement weather or smoke, inside recess/lunch will take place in cohort groups in separate classroom spaces.

    • Campers who experience covid 19 symptoms while in camp will be moved to the quarantine space of the museum, the museum’s green room, with a museum staff member. Parents and then emergency contact will be notified and staff will stay with student until student can be picked up.

    • Camper Families will be notified by email and by phone about any exposure to positive covid-19 cases during camp hours. Exposure notifications will be kept anonymous.

    • We ask that camper families monitor their household for any symptoms of illness and should not plan on camper attending camp if they are feeling sick or a member of the household is feeling sick.

    • If camper or household family member tests positive for covid-19, please do not come to camp and notify camp staff as soon as possible.

    • Campers needing to miss or to cancel Summer Camp based covid-19 exposure will connect with staff member for possible refund. See cancellation and refund policy in Program Information and Registration Forms.

    • Please connect with our staff members should you have any questions about recent exposure, covid-19 sickness or covid-19 protocols.

    • Museum reserves the right to cancel camps based on the safety of staff, museum guests and campers. Any changes to the program will be messaged to families as they happen.
